The game of Roulette comes in two main forms: American and European. The main difference between the two is the American version adds one extra number to the wheel-00. This could be why the American version of Roulette is not as wildly popular as it is in Europe. Most online casinos use the American version, because the 00 spot adds to the house advantage.
The Game
The game of roulette is extremely simple to learn and if not for the 00 spot, it might be played more often in America-millions still play it though. The Roulette wheel, which is a highly recognized gambling icon, has thirty-eight slots on it (one through thirty-six, zero and double-zero).

The Bets
Since there are multiple bets for Roulette, we will take a look at each one in detail-including probability stats.
Straight Bet: You can bet on any number by placing a bet on it. Your probability of winning is 1 in 38 (2.63%). The straight bet pays 35 to 1-even though there are 38 spots on the wheel. This discrepancy gives the house a 5.26% advantage on straight bets. 5.26% is the house advantage on the entire game of Roulette.
Columns: You can bet on one of three horizontal columns. This bet pays two to one and the probability of winning is 31.5%.
Dozens: You can bet on a pack of twelve numbers (1-12, 13-24, 25-36) and the bet will pay two to one. The probability of winning is 31.5%.
Low or High: A bet can be placed on the outcome being a number one through eighteen or nineteen through thirty-six. This bet pays even money.
Red or Black: Bet on what color the winning number will be. This bet pays even money.
Odd or Even: Bet on the winning number being an odd or even number. This bet pays even money.
Split Bet: You can bet on two adjoining numbers by placing your bet on the line that connects the two numbers. The bet pays seventeen to one and has a winning probability of 5.26%.
Corner Bet: Bet on four numbers at once by placing your bet on the corner that connects all four bets. This bet pays eight to one and has a winning probability of 11.1% .
Street Bet: Place your bet on the line that begins any three-number vertical row to select all three numbers. This bet pays eleven to one and has a winning probability of 7.89%.
Line Bet: Place your bet on the line that shares a border with two vertical rows to select all six numbers in the two rows. This bet pays five to one and has a winning probability of 15.78%.
Five-Number Bet: There's one five-number bet on the whole table and it's in the area where the 0/00 line meets the number two. By placing your bet here, you will be selecting the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. The bet, which is a bad bet, pays six to one and has a 13.1% winning probability. The house edge on this bet shoots up to 7.89%.
Online Difference
In the real world, the Roulette wheels and associated parts for the table are finely crafted, but small differences remain. Because of this, it's possible-and has been proven-that certain roulette wheels might favor a section a little more-slightly over a long sample size.
Furthermore, a dealer who might have a certain ball spin technique and speed, which can affect the outcome, runs the game. It's possible that a certain dealer might show results that have a small degree of pattern in them.
At online casinos, this is not a factor at all. The game is run by a RNG (Random Number Generator). While streaks happen in both places, it is perhaps more likely to experience streaks in online play. So be careful all you streak progression players.
As mentioned before, the online casinos use the American version of the game. While there might be an online casino using the European version, we have not located such a place. The most common type of system you will find is a progression betting system.
Progression based systems involve altering your bet based on the outcome of the last bet. Two common progression chains are (1-1-3-6-12-24-48-96) and (1-2-4-8-16-32-64-128). The first progression has no profit on the second rung of the ladder, while the second progression returns one unit profit at any stage.
Progression systems like this are pretty dangerous because of the house advantage built into Roulette and the fact that streaks happen very often-perhaps more so in online play.
